Food Safety, Certified: What Our 99/100 SQF Score Means for Your Granola - Uncle Crumbles

Food Safety, Certified: What Our 99/100 SQF Score Means for Your Granola

A Note from Uncle Crumbles Himself:

Dear snacking Samaritans and oat-curious individuals:

One cannot simply hurl nuts and oats into a bag and hope for brilliance. No, no—one must formulate it. That’s why, in addition to concocting ever-more-dazzling granola delights, my humble granolaboratory has earned a score of 99/100 in our latest SQF audit—the highest score in our history. What does this mean? In short: our granola isn’t just genius. It’s safe. Certified safe. As in, 99%-perfect-on-an-internationally-recognized-standard safe. Now, I shall return to my spice-scented lab. You may proceed below. – U.C.

What Is SQF, and Why Should You Care?

Even if you’ve never heard of SQF (Safe Quality Food), it’s quietly working behind the scenes to protect your pantry. Developed to meet the global gold standard for food safety, SQF certification helps ensure that the food you eat—whether it’s granola, guacamole, or goat cheese—has been made with the highest level of care, in a facility that’s clean, consistent, and well-documented.

SQF is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), a worldwide coalition of food experts and regulators that sets the benchmark for what “safe food” really means. Translation: when a food company gets SQF certified, they’ve passed a rigorous audit that covers everything from ingredient sourcing to sanitation to staff training.

Our granologists didn’t just pass. We scored a 99 out of 100.

What Happens During an SQF Audit?

Every year, our granola-making facility in East Hartford, Connecticut undergoes an intense inspection by a third-party auditor. Here’s what they look at:

  • Ingredient sourcing – Are we choosing high-quality, clean-label ingredients?
  • Manufacturing processes – Are we following good manufacturing practices (GMPs)?
  • Sanitation and cleanliness – Is our equipment spotless? Our staff properly trained?
  • Traceability – Can we track every oat from field to shelf?
  • Food safety plans – Do we have systems in place to identify and prevent risks?

It’s not a one-time thing. It’s a living system—a constantly improving, always-auditable, science-backed way of ensuring that what we make is as safe and consistent as it is delicious.

Why 99/100 Matters

SQF scores are like food safety report cards—and 99/100 is the kind of grade that makes other snack companies jealous. It means we’re operating at the very top of food safety standards, only a hairline away from utter culinary perfection.

That number isn’t just a badge of honor for us. It’s peace of mind for you. Because when it comes to what goes into your body—or your kid’s lunchbox—safety shouldn’t be a question.

Safe. Smart. Still Wildly Delicious

Earning an SQF certification is ultimately about protecting trust. You trust Uncle Crumbles to bring you granola that’s inventive, wholesome, and free from weird additives or sketchy shortcuts. We take that trust seriously—and our SQF certification proves it.

Next time you’re snacking on a handful of Uncle Crumbles, know this: behind every bite is a team of food safety nerds, obsessing over the details, testing every step, and doing it all so you can enjoy granola that’s as safe as it is sensational.
