Lower Sugar, Higher Standards: Granola for Diabetics - Uncle Crumbles

Lower Sugar, Higher Standards: Granola for Diabetics

With a brief interruption from the desk of Uncle Crumbles himself.

When you think “granola,” you might picture a sugary snack masquerading as a health food. But that’s not what we do here.

At Uncle Crumbles, we believe granola should taste good and do good. That’s why our granolas are lower in sugar and made with whole food ingredients that don’t just fill you up—they fuel you.

Unlike many big-brand granolas with 10–12g of sugar per serving, ours come in well under that mark:

  • Brainberry: 5g
  • Sugar Cookie: 6g
  • Dark Chocolate Sea Salt: 7g
  • Cinna-Maple: 8g
  • Cran-Maple: 8g

Why It Matters for Blood Sugar

If you’re managing diabetes or trying to keep blood sugar levels steady, not all carbs are created equal. Oats, nuts, seeds, and fruit provide fiber and healthy fats—both of which help slow the absorption of sugar and keep energy levels even throughout the day.

Our granola combines those elements with just enough sweetness to satisfy, not spike.

A Heart-Healthy Way to Snack

Oats are known for being heart healthy—they’re rich in soluble fiber, which can help manage cholesterol. Add in almonds, sunflower seeds, flax, or pumpkin seeds (depending on the flavor), and you’ve got a crunchy, craveable blend that supports cardiovascular health as much as it supports your yogurt.

Tips for Enjoying Granola with Diabetes

  • Stick to the serving size (about 1/4–1/3 cup)
  • Pair with protein: Yogurt, cottage cheese, or unsweetened almond milk are great options
  • Add fiber: Top with berries or chia seeds for a fiber boost
  • Mix & match: Combine with plain popcorn or nuts for a lower-sugar trail mix

A Word from Uncle Crumbles

(with only mild digression)
“I’ve always said: sugar should whisper, not shout. And if it must raise its voice, it had better say something worth hearing. That’s why I craft each recipe with restraint, flavor, and a deep respect for the pancreas. Eat boldly, breakfasters—but not recklessly.” – U.C.
